Dancer, choreographer, creative artist and teacher.
As Producer and Artistic Director of the company Mi Flamenco, since 2007, she has co-directed and performed in all its productions with renowned artists such as Kelian Jimenez, Carlos Velazquez, Luis Vargas Monge, Coral de los Reyes, Tomas Arroquero and classical cellist, Nick Squires. Tours that have taken the company UK-wide and beyond, performing in venues including Trinity Laban, Pavilion Dance and Buxton Opera House.
Her dance is deeply-rooted in flamenco, a career spanning over 25 years, 13 of which she spent studying and working as a flamenco dancer in Spain. During this time, Ester worked in theatres in Burgos, Madrid and Zaragoza, as well as specialised flamenco venues (tablaos and peñas); Tio Parilla, La Bodega and Damijuana in Jerez and Villa Rosa in Madrid.
Uncomfortable with the confines sometimes imposed on rather than by flamenco itself, and restless in her need to diversify the dance vocabulary she uses to express herself, Ester collaborates with artists and movement specialists from other disciplines to enrich her working methodology and create new, exciting work.
Passionate about theatre, the movement of the body and dance in general, she seeks a wide range of creative tools to reach new audiences.
“Rather than turning my back on flamenco, I am embracing new artistic challenges using the vibrancy and amazing rhythms, movement and expression that flamenco offers within a wider context.”
Ester’s background in dance is Madrid and Jerez based. She studied in the capital with renowned flamenco maestros in the Amor De Dios flamenco academy for 7 years before moving down to Andalusia for a further 6 years, to advance her training and working experience.
The joyful intensity of an all-immersive flamenco experience laid the foundations for a never-ending love affair with flamenco, but since coming to the UK, Ester has sought out collaborative, multi-disciplinary creative projects.
“This need to collaborate has brought me to now…please explore.”
